Facebook Email Service for Real

Do you have a email?I'm sure you have one. Every webmail services have different design, user experience and size storage. Most common webmail service that available in the internet are gmail by Google, ymail by Yahoo, hotmail by Microsoft and facebook mail by facebook. Yes its true! Facebook announced the launch of their email service that anyone on Facebook can get an @facebook.com email address.

Can you imagine over 600 million user to use this service even in first launch. That was really good marketing strategies.Joel Seligstein of Facebook stated in their company release: "Today I'm excited to announce the next evolution of Messages. You decide how you want to talk to your friends: via SMS, chat, email or Messages. They will receive your message through whatever medium or device is convenient for them, and you can both have a conversation in real time. You shouldn't have to remember who prefers IM over email or worry about which technology to use. Simply choose their name and type a message.

We are also providing an @facebook.com email address to every person on Facebook who wants one. Now people can share with friends over email, whether they're on Facebook or not. To be clear, Messages is not email. There are no subject lines, no cc, no bcc, and you can send a message by hitting the Enter key. We modeled it more closely to chat and reduced the number of things you need to do to send a message. We wanted to make this more like a conversation," .

What do you think the impact of this in Gmail throne as the most popular email service in the net?. For me, there will be a big impact but it can never totally destroyed the spot of gmail service with the following perspective. First, most of google Service such as Google Analytics, Adwords etc.. must need gmail address to have an account. So I'm pretty much sure that these existing email address that webmaster had are still their primary email. Another thing is having a lot of email to maintain is a bit confusing, (It might not be enough reason but for me its really matter.).

On the other hand I will create a facebook email if it really needed. Like for instance when you creating a facebook aps and need it then this could help. What I'm thinking that facebook will change the email address login that you already register in their with their facebook email domain in the future. Good luck facebook and have a nice competition.

Please post your comment on this folks.
