Keyword stuffing refers to the practice of putting large density of keywords in an attempt to manipulate a site's ranking in a search engine result. This had been used in the past to obtain maximum search engine ranking. However, this method is completely outdated and adds no value in today’s search engine ranking.

Search engine is now more intelligent to detect if there is keyword stuffing in a page by measuring the keyword density. In particular, Google no longer gives good rankings to pages employing this technique, otherwise, it considered as spam and penalized.

Hiding text (especially keywords) is one of the common keyword stuffing strategy. This is done using the following:
  1. Text colored to blend with the background,
  2. "Z-index" positioning to place text "behind" an image
  3. 3. Out of view anchor links from the visitor —
  4. CSS absolute positioning to have the text positioned far from the page center

However, by year 2005, many invisible text techniques were easily detected by major search engines and penalized. CSS "Noscript" tags are another way to place hidden content within a page. While they are a valid optimization method for displaying an alternative representation of scripted content, they may be abused, since search engines may index content that is invisible to most visitors.

Keyword stuffing doesn’t work (that’s the thing). Search engine crawl your site it will detect automatically the unreasonable duplication of keywords. So when your site includes a high number of the same keyword, search engine will put you nowhere instead of making you top in search engine list or worse, removed you from indexing.
