I tried viewing some of my recent posts in an IE browsers and I noticed when I trying to load a post which has a comment the page is suddenly stop and freeze. It is really weird and it only happens on IE. The only option I got is to go back on the home page. Investigating it, I observe that only those posts which had comments are the one which is not loaded.

This issue is due to comment bug. Blog which has a “Embedded” type of comment suffers on this problem. I found a temporary solution on the blogger forum and that is by changing your comment location into popup or full page type.

5 Ways to Improve Website Readability

Readability is making a great impact in the overall design structure of once site all over this year. Design didn’t stop with the correct color scheme and placing right elements at the right place. It is like more giving care when you deal the readability area carefully.

1. Make a standard design.

For the year 2011, most of the Internet users have standard monitor size 1024x768 pixels. From that time onward most of designers make their design to meet the standard.
Though, some of them make their design a little narrow with 770px width trying not to offend the 1% users left.
However they didn’t know that they were sacrificing the 99% of users since it is ghastly to look for the white spaces left.

2. Make your text large enough.

This is the most obvious issue that comes to our mind when we say "readability”". Use large enough font-size and standard font-style as possible to make your content easy to read and understand. I usually used between 13-14px font-size with Tahoma/Arial/Verdana font on my site.

3. Use right text-color and background.

In my judgment, use of white background and dark color text is still the best when dealing with text contents. On the other hand, if you are creating an attractive design please remember to use contrasting colors and use your best judgment to decide what colors to use. Don’t limit yourself in experimenting something but make sure you know what you’re doing.

4. Use enough line-height.

Line height refers to the distance between you content sentences lines. In most cases, it’s ignored, yet, using right line-height help a lot when dealing readability. It can achieve using line-height CSS property. Ex. p {line-height:23px} In this blog, I’m using 23px line height and you can see it quite clear and enough.

5. Check, check and check.

Check misspelled words, grammar and format on your site.

Think twice before you buy .co.cc Domains

Bloggers should think twice before making a move in buying .co.cc domains. Recently, Google announced and confirmed that they removed all the .co.cc domains and websites from the search results and indexing. Domains having .co.cc domains will not be included in the search query as what Google implied. In simple manner websites having this domain extension can’t get any traffic from Google.

The reason why Google taking this step is to lessen the “spammy results” in their search query. Majority of the .co.cc sites are considered to be spammy and, thee most obvious facts why Google doesn't trust this domain extension is that: first, it is not considered as top level domain, then the second one is, it is usually given free.

.co.cc domain is primarily owned by a private company located in korea so that why Google take this as a free hosting provider and blocked it totally in search results. Another story is, since this domain extension is usually free, spammers start creating thousands of spammy websites out of this domain and complete their spam offers with less monetary expenses.

I know that you can usually get a good domain with these extensions but never ignore the fact that your sites will be mixed up with spammy sites which is not good at all. The main point here is that when you are seriously investing for something then you need to be serious. Please always go with .com .net .org domain.

If domain name you want is taken then don’t settle for the lesser quality domain like .biz .info or whatsoever. You need to be creative and think for new name and go for .com :)

Let me know your thoughts? Please leave a comment below.

Page Speed Checker

Loading speed impart big impact when we talk about site performance. The higher the loading speed the better. There also evidences that fast loading sites acquire better SEO rankings. Google already includes page load time as a factor in determining an AdWord listing's Quality at the same time smaller files will be downloaded faster in which result to lessen your bounce rate and less server bandwidth consumed. Search engine will not oftenly crawl your site since it likely use light threading process. Meaning, search engine send as much traffic which server can handle.

Another best result is; it helps users experience. Studies show that user’s only wait up to three seconds maximum for a page before leaving. So if you’re site is too slow, you could grab bunch of negative impact towards your users.

Checking your site Speed

There are several websites which offers free loading speed checker for your site. Some of these websites are: www.websiteoptimization.com, www.iwebtool.com, www.linkvendor.com and more.  Aside from those site mention, another helpful tool is the Page Speed for Firefox Browser which can be seen in your webmaster tools page. Labs > Site Performance.

Page Speed Tool analyze the loading speed of your site pages and give overall score for page speed. Score is based on 100 ratio. It also list necessary actions, files, and corresponding speed per action. Actions listed are need to be taken in order to get a high score or simply pass the loading speed standard, 88 - 100. But if it is possible to make it 100 that would be great.

You can also click the listed actions if you want to have more informations with regard to it. Try to make your site as skinny as you can (skinny = fast). To acquire credibility, search engines crawling benefits and lessen your bounce rate. Test your site now.

Obsession of a Blogger

Being a blogger need a proper habits and ethics. Loosing these two leads to obsessions, some of theses are good, some are bad. Obsessions goes beyond our daily living even with our blog.

Bloggers are obsessed in different reason but most of them are due urging of high traffic, high search engine ranking and of course gaining "money".

Obsession for traffic stats

Mr. Thanh Pham clearly point out the bloggers obsession towards their stats and comments everyday in his guest post to dailyblogtips.com. I also did that! When I start my blogging career I usually check my traffic and comment stats every hour or less. As days goes by, I found myself keep doing that until I noticed that my blog doesn’t moving forward since I lost time doing it repeatedly.

I lost time. What if instead of checking my traffic stats I created a post or do blog commenting, or even guest posting in other blog? Maybe, I made 1000 post or less. :(

Today, I go for schedule in checking my blog stats. I check it in the evening before doing a evening post and I tell the excitement is there compare for an hourly checking. :)

Obsession for Search Engine Results

Another obsession that I noticed for most bloggers is the desires for search engine results. A kinda good obsession if you hear it first. But the pitfall of being obessed so much in search engine results are unreasonable expense and bush SEO implementation. Due to the desire of search engine results spot they ended to join ppc campaign and do a highest bid without consideration of keyword analysis. If you aren’t big company or an e-commerce company it is not important to join ppc campaign such as adwords. What you need to do is to create a proper keywords analysis and stable back linking.

Bush SEO implementation on the other hand is either intentional or cause of extensive search results obsession. They find themeselves applying black hat SEO, keywords spamming, link farming etc... which are unacceptable method of blog marketing.

Obsession for Money

They say that "The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil", true isn’t it?. One of the major problem for almost bloggers is the instinct of gaining money by making blog. The lose end of this idea is that they writing for money and not for the readers. So the end result is that they do nasty ways to gain money such as copying content from other blogs, do offensive seo method, and violating right of others and more..

But one thing I assure you, too much obsession for money can end up of getting nothng.

Good-bye Blogger

Even though I customized my blog well yet I'm a little bit worried since I don't host on my own. I really want to move it in Wordpress platform and manage it with no worries. I'm reading some nuts in the net until come to the point to read some reviews regarding Blogger vs. Wordpress. Since in blogger there are several important features that I need customized in my blog but blogger doesn’t allow me to do it. I research enough reasons why I need to move in Worpress Platform.

Easy to set up and use

Yes, you can set up your blog in blogspot for a couple of minutes. For that short of time you will have you blogspot.com and blogger account. There are ready made templates for you and you can start posting as soon as you finish setting it up.

On the other hand, Wordpress take a couple of hours and little tricky installation since you need a hosting service for it. You must download the Wordpress files, upload in your server, set up a database and configure. Wordpress also has default template to use.

However, if you have a Cpanel in your hosting, most of hosting services has a one click installation for well known CMS such as Joomla, Wordpress, and Drupal. So, you don’t need to hassle installing it.

Right of Ownership

I finally have time to read the Term of Service (TOS) of Blogger or generally Google TOS yesterday but I’m shocked how they construct a statement where it said "Google is the owner of your intellectual property". Another thing is that they can shut down your account without any prior notice when the time they don't want your blogging. Scary isn't it? And oh! One thing even you custom you domain in Blogger, still, you are using their database so be aware of that.

Please see this excerpt of their TOS.

Compare with Wordpress, you have your domain name and hosting with your own. You have a full access and control over it.

Customization and Features

The first thing that I don’t like with Blogger is that, they don’t support Category. They support labels but you can’t do a hierarchy linking to it. Deeper category improve internal linking, with that said blogger is fail in that aspect. On the otherhand Wordpress has the ability to give you a deeper internal linking by serving the hierarchy category.

Blogger have several widget that are useful but that’s the only distance blogger can go with. With Wordpress though is far beyond that. Custom plugins and advanced tools, very supportive community, and a complete user experience in general.

Addition, In case you want to edit robot.txt and htaccess file in Blogger, you don't have any way to this. since Blogger doesn't have htacces and robot.txt for you. :-P

Easy Posting of Article

Which user interface (UI) do you prefer? Blogger Dashboard or Wordpres?

Based on my experience, I like Wordpress Dashboard not basing on the color scheme or any design. What I like most is the presentation of HTML elements. In blogger if you copy your written article and paste it directly to its editor. The style and other unnecessary elements from MS word is also copied in the editor in which when you publish, it will look different from what you expecting. The code is also untidy. Unlike Wordpress which give you neat and clean HTML elements.

Hug with Mr. SEO

Search Engine Optimization process is easily applied due to free and premium SEO extension. Optimizing keywords, title and description is so easy with Worpdress, Where in Blogger, you need to do hack in your template file to do the process.

See you soon Wordpress. I'm leaving Blogger for Best!

6 Ways in Snagging Inbound Links

In my previous post, I discussed about article spinning as an effective SEO technique.

Communication in websites are barely done through linking. It’s rare to find a site which doesn't link their self to other sites. Links create websites communities usually with the topics and interest. Search engine then made an evaluation regarding site importance base on the numbers of quality links.

There are two of types of linking that are present in the web; inbound links and outbound links. Inbound links is simply incoming links to your site from other site or webpage. Improving inbound links are making your site importance in search engine which giving you good search results and indication of good page rank.

6 Ways in Snagging Inbound Links

Several ways to achieve quality links are the following:

1. Link Request

This is considered to be the primitive way to gain an inbound links. Examining your site topics and industries is the first step you need to do before approaching others to link your site. But since, there are several factors of worries or competition aspects to be consider, this method is not effective in reality.

2. Let other Bloggers Do

Since blogging phenomenon is widespread, most company used this as a powerful tool in establishing a back links to their site.

3. Be a Guest Writer

This is considered to be the most effective way to gain inbound links. Site owners/ blogger create an article or a post to other sites which ranking is high to leverage their site through getting back links. However, in creating or submitting an article please make sure that you submit an article which is well written, accurate, and useful to readers. Meeting these requirements will create a commitment to your readers.

4. Affiliate Program

Is a type of paid advertising that uses linking to monetize for both advertisers and publishers. Affiliate program works by leaving a link to other site as a return of payment or a purchase commission. Links are generally made up of goals such as buying a products, registration or newsletter subscription. However, there are rumors that affiliate marketing derived a less valid linking compare to organic links since it is paid programs. Most search engines however consider affiliate program as acceptable marketing practice in which retain or add whatever rankings you have.

5. Site Commenting

This way of linking can get you to two possible results. First, gain links and increase traffic. Second, getting worse instead. Proper commenting is needed to meet the first possible results. When commenting to other blogs you must observe it in ethical way.

a. Comments must bring solution to a problem.
b. Post a comment related to a topic post.
c. Provide additional information about the post.
d. Respect other idea, especially when getting 2 way comment discussion.

6. Paid links and ads

Paid links is likely common to affiliate program which acceptable as a business practice. However, affiliate program are not posting link direct to your site unlike paid links and ads place a link directly to our page.

Blogger: Custom Domain Effect to Traffic and Pagerank

My previous post deals about on how to fix duplicate titles, descriptions and contents in your blogger site. Now, I will show you another helpful post explaining the effect of changing your .blogspot.com sub-domain to your registered domain.

As we all know, Blogger has the ability to make use your registered domain instead of using the sub-domain, blogspot.com. Doing so, there are several factors that you might want to consider before jumping to it.
Most of bloggers are deterred in getting a custom domain for blogger by the following concerns:

1. Google Pagerank Downgrade.

Let me give you an example, if you have a sub-domain url (example.blogspot.com) and decided to use custom domain, expect to that your pagerank will be downgrade or even back to zero.

Explanation: Since Google need to re-index the newly custom domain, your pagerank will not be carried out and therefore it will be downgrade or back to zero rank. Another reason is that the two domains (the blogspot sub-domain and custom domain) are treated by Google different.

However, Pagerank is not so crucial in getting traffic, so, you probably get traffic as the same as your sub domain or little less. If you have great site, after few months, you will gain back the Pagerank you lost, so be patient. Please also keep in mind that all your previous post will be redirected to your new custom domain and not loss any hits on it.

2. Traffic Problem

If you gain a lot of traffic from you blogspot domain yet decided to use the custom domain features, expect that there will be small shift in your traffic stats. There are some several reason why are you getting this. If you use custom domain you need to resubmit your site with search engine in order to crawl the new domain, in which process take 2-3 weeks. That’s why the newly created articles are not yet visible in search engine for the first 2-3 weeks.

Disclaimer: The article above doesn’t mean to encourage to change your blogger site in custom domain. It was base on my personal experience and you’re free to exchange thought with me.

Blogger: Fix duplicate title tags, description and CONTENT

Lately, when I checked my blog stats in Google Webmaster Tools and drill down in HTML suggestion section, I found sort of errors that make my crawling stats suffer, “duplicate title and descriptions tags”. Looking for some reason in the net and evaluate the structure of my blog template I found these possible causes.

1. Duplicate title and description tags is cause by comment permalinks which search engine treat as different pages while it is simply a link of comment in your post.

2. Another thing is the log Archive Widget (Yes it is) format. When it is in hierarchy format it’s generating a long links. Generated links are not considered by Google as the same pages. Then, Google will prompt these as duplicate pages with duplicate title tags and description.

Do you know?

As you notice, Google Webmaster Tools doesn’t show statistical data about duplicate content. But since Google treat comment permalinks as different pages and give stats in duplicate title and description tags, and then it might give you general idea about duplicate content behavior.

How to fix it?

In order to fix duplicate title tags, description and CONTENT, we need to address the possible causes above.

First step:
Replace the current permalink of the comments.
a. Open your blog template
b. Tick expand widgets and find this code

<a expr:href='data:comment.url' title='comment permalink'> <data:comment.timestamp/> </a>

c. Replace it with this

<b:if cond='data:post.commentPagingRequired'>
  <a expr:href='data:comment.url' title='comment permalink'> <data.comment.timestamp/> </a>
<b:else/>
  <a expr:href='data:blog.url + &quot;#&quot; + data:comment.anchorName' title='comment permalink'> <data:comment.timestamp/> </a>
</b:if>

Second Step:

Make your blog archive widget in flat list format.

Notes: After doing the instructions above, be patient because it will takes 2-3 weeks to see results. If this post help you, subscribe to my rss feed for free updates

Does autoblogging is a bad thing?

This is a question form Steve from Austin, Texas to Mr. Matt Cutts “Does Google see automatically generated content as a bad thing (i.e. spam)? If I publish uncopyrighted content on my site that is available from other sources/sites via a WordPress plugin, and Google found out, are there any penalties? “
Generally, Autobloggin is not a bad thing or shall we say outside America’s area. As what Mr. Cutts said in video below. If one person write an articles either she/he go to copyright office or not, “ARTICLES ARE COPYRIGHTED”. Automated content is not a bad thing since Google itself does automated search in thier search results but there are pro’s and con’s dealing with it.

Pro’s
1. Automated Content can give you a bit traffic since you can post bunch of content everyday.
2. You can easily spotted by Search Engine since you have lot of contents compare to others.
3. You can maintain many blogs as you can since you don’t need to do different content for them everyday.
4. Built hundreds of autoblogging blogs and earn. Sum it up!. You can build hundreds of autoblogging site and earn even just $2.00 per day per blog is quite reasonable.

Con’s
1. First consequences, posibility to encounter copyright infringement. In United States it’s illegal to published others work in your site with out prior to the original authors.
2. I know you can get traffic from Social Media and linking. But Search Engine still the main source of site traffic. Autoblogging is generally dependable for search engine specially with Google. Autoblogging is greatly affected when Google change thier search algorithm. “Google is smart”.
3. Search engine perspective “Sites that stay or stick are the ones that are providing good, quality, HAND MADE CONTENT”.
4. Even autoblogging is automated you still need dedication in order to make it to the top, and that is so frustrating.

For further information about autoblogging. Read this hub
What are your thoughts on the concept of autoblogging?

Custom Domain Canonical Problem

Aside from missing title tags, short description, and duplicate content. webmaster consider the domain canonical issue in order to have a better ranking in search engine.

What is Canonical issue?

This issue is referring to accession of your site url with www or non-www url prefix. (i.e If your site is www.yoursite.com and someone type your site in url without including www and your site is not redirected to www version then you have this issue.) . Search engine can penalized sites and remove your pages in indexing if this issue was not address. And all it takes is a simple oversight in your end.

How to check Canonical issue?

You can do a quick test, key in http://yoursite.com into the browser. Be sure to leave off the www. Does the URL redirect to the www version? You are experiencing a canonical issue. In actual basis these two URL’s are the same but in search engine side these are completely different site with the same content. In that point you site is going through a serious issue with serious penalty “duplicate content”. If your site can’t be access in both ways you need to think about it to configure it so early. Imagine the number of users that might access your page without using www and result to this page.

Fix a canonical issue.

To avoid such problems you can use the following lines in your .htaccess file to force only the www version of your web site:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.yourdomain.com$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www. yourdomain.com/$1 [R=301]

Please take note that .htaccess file should be located in root directory of your website.

It will redirect non-www version of your site to the www version by using a 301 permanent redirect. In that way you can’t have duplicate content.

Most of us teens and adults are both fond of joining social networking but sometimes we cant avoid that our account are being hacked. On the other hand, being a member of social networking sites does have its advantages too.

You will be able to connect and communicate to your long lost friends and even relatives. You can keep up with the lives of your friends even if you don’t see each other regularly. You can share news about your life without having to call each other contact personally or send out hundreds of text messages and lastly, you can be updated with your friends’ and relatives’ birthdays and can greet them at all hours.
How you manage your site and profile is entirely up to you.

Here are some tips that can help you more secure in your site.

1. Leave me alone :) - learn about privacy setting and customize your profile accordingly. Keep all your information’s within your circle of friends only.

2. Be sensitive with private info- don’t post info’s that is too personal like address, and phone no.

3. Picture perfect – be cautious about the types of picture you post. Don’t post picture showing you in embarrassing and unprofessional situation.

4. No phishing allowed-Make sure you are in the correct site when entering your password and other personal info.

5. Use your head – be suspicious of odd messages from your contacts.

6. Avoid the unknown links- think twice before clicking links that your friends send you in message.

7. Know your Friend First – before you accept a new contact make sure they are people you really know.

8. Know yourself- hackers really know what they are doing. In order to get into your account they study the personal information you entered. if possible make up your own password retrieval question.

Hiding Navigation Bar in Blogger

Hosting your blog site with free hosting like blogger must consider the TOS (Terms of Service), Agreement and Terms of Condition of the said host. Most of blogger templates have navigation bar in default because Blogger has started advertisement above the navbar on a random basis. Please see the screenshot.

Blogger Navigation

This navigation bar looks OK if you were using a blogname.blogspot.com as a domain because it is obvious that you’re using blogger. There are various ways to do that yet using is CSS to make it is simple.

Here is my interpretation:

1. Sign in to your blogger account.

2. Go to LAYOUT > EDIT HTML to open the template editor.

3. Look for and paste the following after that:

div.navbar {
opacity:0.0;
display:none;
}

4.Save your template and hoola its done.
